Review The electric XBUS is the cutest thing you'll see today

Now we're all together.... Ahhhhhhh. Isn't this so cute? It's called the XBUS, and according to its German manufacturer, it's "the most innovative and modular light vehicle in the world."

It could also be the most adaptable vehicle we've ever seen. We say'vehicle' because, thanks to its small 10kWh battery and 75bhp output, it may be classified as a quadricycle rather than a car in some countries.

Which is strange when you realize how serious you can go with it. You can put whatever you want on the rear of a modular system. XBUS has it everything, from flat-bed pickup trucks to passenger buses, enormous boxy vans, and even the cutest campervan you've ever seen. You may bulk it up a little bit.

We've been told that solar panels can give it a range of up to 200 kilometers (124 miles), and that upgrading the battery to a 30kWh unit can give it a range of up to 800 kilometers. Or slightly under 500 miles, which feels like a long way. We expect that figure to reduce if you fill your XBUS up – which you will, considering that you're buying something purportedly useful. The charging time is estimated to be three hours.

Permanent, electrically controlled all-wheel drive is standard, and while the power output is modest, the 737lb ft of torque is more than most supercars. We believe it's all extremely electronically managed, given the top speed is humbly listed as "above 62mph."
