BMW B38 engine

The BMW B38 is a 1.5 L, 3 cylinder, 4 valves per cylinder (16 valve/DOHC), turbocharged petrol engine. The B38 features a single-scroll turbocharger manufactured by Bosch-Mahle Systems and an 11:1 compression ratio. It is the first use of BMW's modular engine strategy all using the same 500 cm3 cylinders.

The B38 shares most of its architecture with the BMW B37 diesel 1.5 L; the first usage of this engine was in the BMW i8 concept.

This engine is used in the 2014 Mini Hatch and it will be present in future BMW products.
