Choose wisely! VW 2.5 North America

In the United States Volkswagen's are equipped with a 2.5 L, inline 5 cylinder, natural aspirated, petrol engine. The best and easiest way to describe it, is by having the fuel consumption of a six and the performance of a four cylinder. For example the smaller displacement but more advanced 2.0 TFSI (http://allaboutdieselz.blogspot.ro/2015/11/20-tfsi.html) is outperforming it. If someone is complaining about that this wasn't a fair comparison, here is another example, this time with a natural aspirated, 5 cylinder, in-house petrol engine from the past: the 2.3 L VR5 which was introduced in 1997 is having the exact same performance figures as a new 2.5, but it's 200 cm3 smaller + it's almost a twenty years old engine. What I'm trying to highlight is that Volkswagen is selling for the U.S. an outdated engine for some reason, from which the modern benefits of a VW engine are mostly missing, such as the FSI (fuel stratified ignition) system. You got nothing to loose even if you're choosing a 2.0 CR TDI over it; 140 & 170 HP versions are available which are having 320 NM (236 lb-ft)/350 NM (258 lb-ft) of torque available from a very low 1750 - 2500 rpm. Fuel economy is also improved in case of the TDI, they can easily return 50 mpg in normal driving conditions.
